Hexagram Meaning

The Oracle Speaks

Fire moves upward, lake moves downward — fundamental opposition. In small matters, good fortune despite the estrangement. When people turn their backs on each other, reconciliation begins with small steps. The forked repository — divergent but sharing origin. Opposition reveals complementarity; the tension between opposing views generates creative spark.

The Six Lines — Changing Line Oracles

When a line is “changing” (old yin or old yang), its oracle activates. These texts reveal the specific mutation occurring at that position in the hexagram.

1

Line 1 (Yang — solid) — Bottom

Remorse disappears. If you lose your horse, do not run after it. It returns of its own accord. The lost dependency will come back when needed.

2

Line 2 (Yang — solid)

One meets his lord in a narrow street. No blame. Chance encounter in a constrained space — make the best of it.

3

Line 3 (Yin — broken)

One sees the wagon dragged back, the oxen halted, a man's hair and nose cut off. Not a good beginning, but a good end. Terrible start, eventual resolution.

4

Line 4 (Yang — solid)

Isolated through opposition, one meets a like-minded man with whom one can associate in good faith. Despite the danger, no blame. Finding an ally in hostile territory.

5

Line 5 (Yin — broken)

Remorse disappears. The companion bites through the wrappings. If one goes to him, how could it be a mistake? Breaking through the barriers to reconnect.

6

Line 6 (Yang — solid) — Top

Isolated through opposition, one sees one's companion as a pig covered with dirt, as a wagon full of devils. First one draws a bow against him, then lays the bow aside. He is not a robber; he will woo in good time. The ultimate reconciliation — what seemed evil was actually love.
