Fire on the mountain — it burns briefly and moves on. The wanderer. Success through smallness. Perseverance of the wanderer brings good fortune. The traveler has no home base; each environment is temporary. The contractor, the consultant, the migrating service. Keep your footprint small, your conduct impeccable, your judgments swift but fair.

The Six Lines — Changing Line Oracles

When a line is “changing” (old yin or old yang), its oracle activates. These texts reveal the specific mutation occurring at that position in the hexagram.

Line 1 (Yin — broken) — Bottom

If the wanderer busies himself with trivial things, he draws down misfortune upon himself. Stay focused when you're in someone else's territory.

Line 2 (Yin — broken)

The wanderer comes to an inn. He has his property with him. He wins the steadfastness of a young servant. Stable temporary lodging with loyal tools.

Line 3 (Yang — solid)

The wanderer's inn burns down. He loses the steadfastness of his young servant. Danger. The temporary environment fails catastrophically.

Line 4 (Yang — solid)

The wanderer rests in a shelter. He obtains property and an ax. My heart is not glad. Partial success — resources acquired but no satisfaction.

Line 5 (Yin — broken)

He shoots a pheasant. It drops with the first arrow. In the end this brings both praise and office. Precise action in unfamiliar territory earns permanent recognition.

Line 6 (Yang — solid) — Top

The bird's nest burns up. The wanderer laughs first, then must needs lament and weep. Through carelessness he loses his cow. Misfortune. Carelessness destroys even the wanderer's minimal possessions.
