Hexagram Meaning

The Oracle Speaks

Fire over wood — the image of the sacrificial vessel. Supreme good fortune. The cauldron transforms raw materials into refined nourishment. Each line of the hexagram represents a part of the vessel: legs, belly, handles, rings, lid. The build system that transforms raw code into refined, deployable artifacts. The compiler, the CI pipeline, the sacred process of transformation.

The Six Lines — Changing Line Oracles

When a line is “changing” (old yin or old yang), its oracle activates. These texts reveal the specific mutation occurring at that position in the hexagram.

1

Line 1 (Yin — broken) — Bottom

A cauldron with legs upturned. Furthers removal of stagnating stuff. A concubine is taken for the sake of her son. No blame. Inverting the vessel to clean it — clearing the cache.

2

Line 2 (Yang — solid)

There is food in the cauldron. My comrades are envious, but they cannot harm me. Good fortune. The pipeline produces value; critics cannot diminish it.

3

Line 3 (Yang — solid)

The handle of the cauldron is altered. One is impeded in one's way of life. The fat of the pheasant is not eaten. Once rain falls, remorse is spent. Good fortune in the end. Temporary access issues — the handle is being replaced.

4

Line 4 (Yang — solid)

The legs of the cauldron are broken. The prince's meal is spilled. His person is soiled. Misfortune. Critical infrastructure failure — the build breaks, the deployment spills.

5

Line 5 (Yin — broken)

The cauldron has yellow handles, golden carrying rings. Perseverance furthers. Well-maintained tooling with proper access controls.

6

Line 6 (Yang — solid) — Top

The cauldron has rings of jade. Great good fortune. Nothing that would not act to further. Perfect tooling — the build system transcends mere function to become art.
