No — and that's what makes them useful. If tarot predicted a fixed future, there'd be no point in reading. You'd just be watching a movie of your predetermined life. Tarot reveals trajectories — the likely outcomes of current patterns, energies, and choices.
What Tarot Actually Shows
Think of a tarot reading as a weather forecast, not a prophecy. A forecast says: "Given current atmospheric conditions, rain is likely tomorrow." It doesn't make it rain. And you can still carry an umbrella. Similarly, tarot says: "Given your current situation and trajectory, here's what's forming." You can then decide whether to stay the course or adjust.
The "Future" Position
When a spread has a "future" or "outcome" position, it shows the most probable outcome if nothing changes. It's a snapshot of momentum, not destiny. The most empowering readings are the ones where the querent sees an outcome they don't like and decides to change course — that's the whole point.
The I Ching handles this most elegantly with its changing lines mechanism. The primary hexagram shows the present; the transformed hexagram shows where things are heading. But the changes themselves are the intervention points — they show you exactly where the leverage is.
