What is the difference between divination and fortune telling?

Fortune telling claims to reveal a fixed future. Divination reveals the present with such clarity that you can navigate what comes next. The difference isn't semantic — it's structural.

Fortune Telling

Fortune telling operates on a deterministic model: the future is set, and the reader's job is to decode it. "You will meet a tall stranger." "Money is coming in March." This model is popular because it's comforting — someone else holds the answers, and your job is just to show up.

Divination

Divination operates on a probabilistic model: the present contains trajectories, and the system illuminates them. A tarot reading doesn't say "this will happen" — it says "given the current energies and your current path, here's what's likely, and here are the leverage points." You remain the agent. The oracle provides the map; you choose the route.

Why It Matters

Fortune telling disempowers the querent. If the future is fixed, your choices don't matter. Divination empowers the querent — it gives you better information for better decisions. Every system in Chaos Tarot operates from the divination model. We don't predict your future. We illuminate your present so thoroughly that the future becomes clearer on its own.
