How do you ask good questions for a tarot reading?

The quality of your question determines the quality of your reading. A vague question produces a vague answer. A precise question produces an answer you can actually use. Here's the framework:

Good Question Patterns

  • "What do I need to understand about..." — Opens the door to insight without limiting what the cards can say
  • "What will help me with..." — Action-oriented, asks for guidance rather than prediction
  • "What is the energy around..." — Explores a situation without forcing a yes/no
  • "What happens if I choose..." — Examines a specific path's trajectory

Questions to Avoid

  • "Will he/she come back?" — Gives away your agency to another person's decision. Better: "What do I need to understand about this relationship's trajectory?"
  • "When will X happen?" — Tarot doesn't do calendars well. Better: "What's blocking X from manifesting?"
  • "Should I..." — Outsources your decision to a card deck. Better: "What are the energies around each option?"

The Core Principle

Ask questions that keep you as the agent. Divination provides information; decisions remain yours. The best questions assume you have the power to act and ask the cards to illuminate what you can't see clearly on your own.
