What is a tarot journal and should I keep one?

A tarot journal is a record of your readings — the cards drawn, your interpretations, the questions asked, and (critically) what actually happened afterward. It's the single most powerful learning tool in divination, and yes, you should keep one.

What to Record

  • Date and time
  • Your question (exact wording)
  • Cards drawn and their positions
  • Your interpretation at the time
  • Your emotional state
  • Follow-up notes (revisit after a week/month)

Why It Matters

Without a journal, you'll forget 90% of your readings within a month. With one, you build a personal database of symbol-to-outcome correlations. Over time, you'll notice that certain cards consistently mean specific things for you — personal associations that no book can teach. The Two of Vectors (Pentacles) might always show up when you're juggling work projects. The Queen of Networks (Cups) might reliably indicate your mother.

Digital Journaling

Chaos Tarot's Oracle tier includes a built-in divination journal that automatically records your draws, lets you add notes, and tracks patterns over time. It removes the friction of manual logging while preserving the reflective practice. Whether digital or physical, the journal converts casual card-pulling into genuine study.
